From brown to green: The just conversion of sites and jobs for the energy transition

The goal of a just transition is to ensure that no one is left behind. Therefore, to achieve renewable goals, countries need to both address the skills gap and make use of sites that were formerly used for “brown” purposes to bring areas with an industrial past to the green transition. This session will focus on the opportunities pumped storage offers to support the industry overall, along with ways in which we can develop sites formerly used for brown purposes (e.g., mining) while also supporting local communities.
